You've been blowing through the Anastasia books, huh? I loved them so much when I was in elementary school. (Still do, of course).
What did you think of the Tolan book? I wasn't all that into it for some reason but it's been a while since reading it so I don't remember why...
Actually I can't believe how good the Anastasia books are. Anyone who bans them is a complete moron. They're well written, Anastasia's a pip, her family is really cool and functional, her parents are actual characters in the story, not just background. I mean, how much better could they be?
I dug Surviving the Applewhites. I really enjoyed the concept of a kid who always used overly dramatic action to push people away who was suddenly thrown in with a family who were ALL over dramatic and therefore he had no ability to shock them. That's a serious simpification of the story, but I enjoyed it a bit more than other adoption/foster kid stories which try to explain away anti-social behavior instead of ignoring the reasons behind it and just redirecting the attention and energy.
That's a nice take on Applewhites -- nice enough that I think I should re-read it.
I don't think that the Anastasia books could get any better. Now I want to re-read them again.
Bill Peet rules.
The Year of Ice was a great read. Though it left me wanting more...but in a good way. Like I want the next book. LOL.
